The transcendent modern talent returns to Australia for the first time since 2023 to perform an array of material across her spellbinding catalogue.
Known for her ethereal blend of delicate piano melodies and ambient music, Rani creates introspective, cinematic compositions that masterfully balance meditative acoustic and electronic elements. The composer’s newly-released fourth solo album Nostalgia (2024) represents her artistic evolution and features photographs and ruminations on each track, marking the first time Rani has brought her sonic and visual worlds together.
Hania Rani says: “I am delighted to be performing at the iconic Sydney Opera House for the first time. My life keeps surprising me as during my previous Australian tour in 2023, I had the chance to see the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Simon Rattle in the Concert Hall. The atmosphere, the sound and certainly the design left me in complete awe. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d be a part of the venue’s history. I can’t wait to share this unforgettable night with my Sydney audience!”
A conservatory-trained pianist, Rani draws on minimalism and contemporary influences, citing Max Richter, Enya, Miles Davis, Nils Frahm, James Blake, Portico Quartet, Radiohead and even The Beatles as some of her musical inspirations. Moving beyond the confines of traditional classical music, her recorded material has expanded to include synths, drum machines, strings and vocals, introducing eloquent new layers to her contemporary classical repertoire.
Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, says: “A virtuoso of haunting and enchanting compositions, it’s a joy to welcome Hania Rani to the Concert Hall for her Sydney Opera House debut. Her mesmerising rhythms and hypnotic vocals effortlessly combine ambient, minimalist and house to push the boundaries of classical music. Come experience the allure of Hania Rani as she charms the House, inviting audiences into her mystical world.”
The renowned musician’s distinct sound has earned her four prestigious Fryderyk Awards including Best Debut Album for her internationally-acclaimed record Esja (2019) and Best Composer for her sophomore follow-up, Home (2020).
