To announce the 2025 program, the festival will host the first Australian screenings of tense journalism thriller, September 5, on Thursday 16 January 2025. Starring Emmy nominee Peter Sarsgaard (Jackie, Blue Jasmine) and Leonie Benesch (The Teachers’ Lounge), September 5 follows an American sports broadcasting crew unexpectedly thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes during the 1972 Munich Olympics.
The 2025 Europa! Europa Film Festival program will be revealed before the screening.
Artistic Director Spiro Economopoulos said, “September 5 is a prime example of the kind of powerful and thought-provoking cinema we are proud to showcase at Europa! Europa.
“This riveting and emotionally charged drama not only revisits a significant historical moment but also examines the enduring relevance of courage, ethics, and human connection under extraordinary circumstances.”
The event will take place across three venues: Lido Cinemas and Classic Cinemas in Melbourne, and Ritz Cinemas in Sydney. Tickets include a complimentary drink on arrival.
