Every member of the ATP and WTA top 50 have signed on to play the tournament, where main-draw action begins on 12 January.

Eleven Australians are confirmed as main-draw starters, including 10 in the men’s field – a group led by top-10 star Alex de Minaur.

Another is Nick Kyrgios, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist who returns using a protected ranking. So too does Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic, making a comeback following the birth of daughter, Bella, in April.

Kyrgios and Bencic are among six men and six women competing at AO 2025 using protected rankings, setting the main-draw entry ranking cut-off for both fields at world No.98.

Kei Nishikori is one of those players; the former world No.4 enters with a protected ranking of 48th, marking his first Australian Open appearance since 2021.

The AO 2025 entry lists reveal the first 104 players directly accepted into both the men’s and women’s singles draws.

A further eight places are reserved for wildcard entries; the first of these were secured by Zhang Shuai and Kasidit Samrej, winners of the recent AO Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play-off.

To complete the 128-player fields, the remaining 16 places will be filled by qualifiers.

That will be determined on 9 January – the final round of the qualifying tournament lighting up Melbourne Park during an action-packed AO Opening Week presented by Herald Sun.

Headlining the women’s entry lists is world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, aiming to become the first woman since Martina Hingis in 1999 to win three consecutive AO titles.

Jannik Sinner tops the men’s list, with the world No.1 hunting back-to-back AO crowns and his second straight major title after his US Open win in September.

Novak Djokovic will target a record-equalling 11th Australian Open, which would see him set an all-time record of 25 Grand Slam singles titles.

But Sabalenka, Sinner and Djokovic will have to fend off quality opposition, including young major champions Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff – all seeking their first AO titles.
